Help spread awareness for build reproducibility

Please help us spread the word discussing build reproducibility with DAO Wallet  via their Twitter!

Do your own research!

Try out searching for "lost bitcoins", "stole my money" or "scammers" together with the wallet's name, even if you think the wallet is generally trustworthy. For all the bigger wallets you will find accusations. Make sure you understand why they were made and if you are comfortable with the provider's reaction.

If you find something we should include, you can create an issue or edit this analysis yourself and create a merge request for your changes.

The Analysis

⚠️ Warning: The app that we have tested has not listed specific functionalities and features. Moreover, there are several inconsistencies pertaining to its web properties.

Updated Review 2021-11-23

We tried testing the app again. We tried to sign-up and register. The OTP still has not arrived. (See below).

The developers still have not responded to our tweet dated October 27, 2021.

They also haven’t replied to our email.

In the absence of further information and without being able to receive the OTP to register, this app is no longer working.

Old Review 2021-10-27

Notes: There is no website listed on its Google Play page. There is a domain listed on its email contact: daoconsensus.ru. However, we were not able to access it due to multiple errors on different platforms:

We noticed in its Google Play description that it refers to the app by another name: “Crypterium

The Site

We googled for ‘daoconsensus + crypterium’ and were able to find daoconsensus.com. At this point, we do not know if this app is related to daoconsensus.com since daoconsensus.com does not link to this app.

At times, the twitter account that apparently is connected with the project also referred to its domain as daoconsensus.info.

The App

We downloaded and registered the app. We tried multiple times but were not able to receive the SMS-OTP.

Contact

We searched on twitter for “daoconsensus” and were able to find @daoconsensus. At this juncture, we still have no clue if this twitter account is related to this specific app. The twitter account @daoconsensus points to daoconsensus.com as their domain.

We tried to clarify this matter with them on twitter.

Verdict

It is difficult to make an accurate verdict without being able to test the app. Without a definitive link between the app and its web properties, it’s also highly difficult to assess whether the information gathered online and elsewhere is accurate.

Apart from twitter, we will also try to contact the developers via email.

Much of the material from its “apparent” social media accounts seem to be promotional with pictures of conventions, charity drives, and real-life activities.

Until the developers reply, we are forced to continue marking this app as a “work-in-progress”.

Verdict Explained

This product went out of business ... or so. Read the analysis for details.

As part of our Methodology, we ask:

Is the product still supported by the still existing provider? If not, we tag it Defunct!

Discontinued products or worse, products of providers that are not active anymore, are problematic, especially if they were not formerly reproducible and well audited to be self-custodial following open standards. If the provider hasn’t answered inquiries for a year but their server is still running or similar circumstances might get this verdict, too.
