Do your own research!
Try out searching for "lost bitcoins", "stole my money" or "scammers" together with the wallet's name, even if you think the wallet is generally trustworthy. For all the bigger wallets you will find accusations. Make sure you understand why they were made and if you are comfortable with the provider's reaction.
The Analysis ¶
Barchart is a financial app:
Barchart Stocks, Futures and Forex is the most complete financial app currently available, featuring free real-time stock prices. Track stocks, futures, forex markets, ETFs & indices. In-depth coverage on every symbol (including charts, technicals, fundamentals, opinions) is available at your fingertips on our advanced Favorites Lists, making it easy for investors and market followers to track and watch the markets.
It’s unclear whether this app has anything to do with bitcoin. However, it lists “cryptocurrencies” once as an item in it’s list of: “— Forex & Currencies —”
From the About Us page:
we launched Barchart.com as one of the first websites for commodities and futures market data. Since then, we have evolved into a global financial technology leader providing market data and services to the global financial, media, and commodity industries.
This does not sound like a bitcoin wallet or exchange.
In order to get a clearer look at this app’s features, we tried the app. We could see tabs for stocks, futures, and the forex market. We could not find anything relating directly to bitcoin.
This app is not a bitcoin wallet.
This appears to not be a product to receive and send money.
As part of our Methodology, we ask:Is it a wallet? If not, we tag it No Wallet
If it’s called “wallet” but is actually only a portfolio tracker, we don’t look any deeper, assuming it is not meant to control funds. What has no funds, can’t lose your coins. It might still leak your financial history!
If you can “have” bitcoins in it but not actually receive or send them, then what really happens is that you can get exposure to the Bitcoin exchange rate but we still don’t consider it a wallet.
