Help spread awareness for build reproducibility

Please help us spread the word discussing build reproducibility with Coinigy  via their Twitter!

Do your own research!

Try out searching for "lost bitcoins", "stole my money" or "scammers" together with the wallet's name, even if you think the wallet is generally trustworthy. For all the bigger wallets you will find accusations. Make sure you understand why they were made and if you are comfortable with the provider's reaction.

If you find something we should include, you can create an issue or edit this analysis yourself and create a merge request for your changes.

The Analysis

App Description

The app is described as a cryptocurrency trading and portfolio management tool. It also allows the importation of third-party cryptocurrency exchange APIs and wallets.

  • Connect your exchange API accounts to Coinigy and trade directly through a single app.
  • Automatically import your portfolio from all major cryptocurrency exchanges and hundreds of wallets.
  • Live streaming price and orderbook data, powered by Coinigy CryptoFeed™
  • Curated cryptocurrency news updates provided by Coinigy’s NewsWire service
  • One-time setup and your portfolio is available across all your devices, including web.
  • Customizable interface, you choose what you want to see.

The Site

In the section dedicated for Security entitled, “What security is in place for Coinigy?”

Coinigy never handles your funds directly. All funds remain stored in the exchange’s wallets.

The App

Upon download and registration we proceeded to find the wallet section. We cannot find it. The ‘Portfolio’ section gives you the ability to add an exchange account. We assume that you can check your balances in that exchange after inputting the API keys.

Verdict

This app does not have a bitcoin wallet.

Verdict Explained

This appears to not be a product to receive and send money.

As part of our Methodology, we ask:

Is it a wallet? If not, we tag it No Wallet

If it’s called “wallet” but is actually only a portfolio tracker, we don’t look any deeper, assuming it is not meant to control funds. What has no funds, can’t lose your coins. It might still leak your financial history!

If you can buy Bitcoins with this app but only into another wallet, it’s not a wallet itself.
